Jaśmina Wójcik
Park’s Memories
Exhibition and discussion with the artist
Friday, 20th September, 18:00
Summer Pavilion/ Millenium Park

No one should think about revitalization of the Millenium Park without taking into account factors that participated in shaping the park itself. Political history of this place and context of constant erasing remains of the German presence in the western parts of Poland, continues to be controversial topic.
Many citizens of Zielona Góra suggest proper commemoration of the history of the park. Jaśmina Wójcik’s project is an opportunity for consideration of the form of monument that might be installed within the park. The artist during her stay in Zielona Góra discussed this topic with local community, who remember the time of park’s transformation from cemetery into the public space. Stories of seniors became a starting point for series of workshops with teenagers that will end up with an exhibition in the Park’s Summer Pavilion and the discussion with park users about permanent way of commemoration of the its history.
The Jaśmina’s Wójcik event, thanks to its social context, creates the opportunity to open oneself to different forms of showing respect to the park’s history and defining its new identity. Owing to the fact that younger and older generations will participate alongside permanent monument of it’s past and future is going to be built and the history of the park is eventually going to be coherent.
